The most beautiful beaches in South Gozo within easy reach
Xlendi and the southern part of Gozo offer a mix of sandy beaches, rocky swimming spots, and quiet coves with scenic coastal views. Some are within walking distance of Xlendi, while others are just a short drive away.
Staying in Xlendi gives you easy access to several of the island’s most popular beaches.
Gozo’s largest sandy beach
Ramla Bay
Ramla Bay is the largest and most famous sandy beach on the island of Gozo, known for its distinctive red-gold sand. Located on the northern coast, it is particularly popular with families thanks to its gentle entry into the sea and wide open space. The beach is easily accessible by car, and during the summer season, you will find basic facilities and a small refreshment kiosk. Because of this, Ramla rarely feels overcrowded compared to smaller coves around the island.
Ramla Bay is approximately a 20-minute drive from Xlendi.
If you prefer a smaller and quieter beach, consider visiting San Blas Bay or the secluded Mgarr ix-Xini or Hondoq Bay

Hondoq ir-Rummien
Hondoq ir-Rummien is located on the southeastern coast of Gozo near the village of Qala. This small sandy and pebbled beach offers clear turquoise water and open views towards the island of Comino. It is popular with locals and generally feels quieter than Ramla Bay. The gently sloping shoreline makes it suitable for relaxed swimming and snorkeling. Parking is available above the beach, and duthe ring summer months you will usually find a small refreshment kiosk. Hondoq ir-Rummien is approximately a 25-minute drive from Xlendi.
From Hondoq Bay, it is easy to take a boat trip to Comino and the famous Blue Lagoon.

Comino and the Blue Lagoon
The small island of Comino lies between Malta and Gozo and is famous for its iconic Blue Lagoon with crystal-clear turquoise water. It is not a traditional sandy beach, but a shallow lagoon ideal for swimming and snorkeling. Comino can be reached by boat from Mgarr Harbour in Gozo or through organised excursions. During peak summer months, the Blue Lagoon can be very busy, especially in the middle of the day. Outside peak hours, it offers a unique swimming experience in exceptionally clear water. From Xlendi, allow approximately 25 minutes by car to reach Mgarr Harbour, where boats depart for Comino.
If you prefer quieter beaches on Gozo itself, Ramla Bay and the smaller San Blas Bay are excellent choices.

San Blas
San Blas Bay is located near the village of Nadur on the northeastern side of Gozo. Like Ramla Bay, it is known for its reddish sand, but it is significantly smaller and offers a more secluded atmosphere. Access to the beach requires walking down a relatively steep road, which naturally limits the number of visitors and keeps the setting quieter. San Blas is ideal for those looking for a more intimate beach experience surrounded by natural scenery.
It is approximately a 25–30 minute drive from Xlendi.
If you are looking for a larger sandy beach, Ramla Bay is a great option, while Mgarr ix-Xini offers a more secluded atmosphere.

Mgarr ix-Xini
Mgarr ix-Xini is a small bay on the southeastern coast of Gozo, surrounded by steep limestone cliffs. It is not a sandy beach, but rather a pebbled and rocky swimming spot with exceptionally clear water.The bay is popular among snorkelers and divers due to its calm atmosphere and underwater visibility. A narrow road leads directly down to the bay, and a small seaside restaurant is located nearby. Mgarr ix-Xini is approximately a 20-minute drive from Xlendi.
If you prefer a sandy beach, Ramla Bay and the smaller San Blas Bay are excellent alternatives.
