Diving
The island of Gozo is home to two of Malta’s most popular tourist resorts, Marsalforn and Xlendi Bay. It’s an excellent spot for diving.
The waters around the island are safe enough to allow divers to enjoy underwater adventures all year round.
For Everyone
Gozo offers dive sites suitable for all levels of experience — from beginners to seasoned divers looking for a new challenge.
Among the Best in the World
Gozo diving is renowned for its underwater visibility, warm temperatures, and stunning underwater scenery. Submerged caves, chimneys, arches, and tunnels, along with breathtaking drop-offs and vibrant marine life, make Gozo a top diving destination. In fact, Gozo and Malta were recently voted the second-best diving destination in the world by Diver magazine readers, making them the number one diving spot in Europe.
A Different World Down There
Beneath the surface lies a magical and colorful world waiting to be discovered. If you’ve already dived in Gozitan waters, you know exactly what we mean. If not, this is just a glimpse of the wonder that awaits beneath the waves.
Wrecks
Decommissioned ships have been deliberately sunk off Gozo’s southern coast, near Comino’s Blue Lagoon, and off Malta’s northern shoreline. One wreck was placed in shallow waters specifically for less experienced divers to enjoy.
Year-Round Possibility
The sea is generally calm, and thanks to the island’s small , travel time between dive sites is minimal. If the wind is strong on one side, you’re just minutes away from an alternative site. The sea temperature never drops below 14ºC, making diving possible almost all year round.
Dive Centers
Gozo offers a wide selection of dive centers with experienced, professional, and certified staff trained to teach all levels — from beginners to advanced — following standards set by Scuba Schools International (SSI), Confédération Mondiale des Activités Subaquatiques (CMAS), and the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI). Dive centers are spread across the islands, so there’s always one close to your accommodation.
There’s no need to bring your own gear — the centers provide everything you need.

A Fascinating Wreck Beneath Gozo’s Surface
Discover the underwater world of Gozo by diving to the legendary wreck of MV Karwela. This former German ferry was deliberately sunk in 2006 near the town of Xatt l-Aħmar as a diving attraction. The wreck lies at a depth of around 40 meters and is known for its iconic staircase corridor and dramatic appearance, resembling a scene from a movie. MV Karwela is an ideal spot for experienced divers – visibility is usually excellent, and access from the shore is easy.
