Coastal walks on Gozo
Gozo is a small island, whose coastline landscape is uniquely diverse and full of natural beauty. The coastal walk is approximately 55 km long and is divided into daily sections of about 10–15 km. For more adventurous souls, the daily sections can be extended. Alternatively, you can complete only a short section of the walk and explore a more remote area. The terrain is a mix of country paths, footpaths, city sidewalks, and a few sections without clearly defined roads. Some parts of the coastal trail are more demanding hikes, while others are easy walks. Overall, the Gozo coastal walk is a moderately demanding hike along a beautiful coastline. The island has uneven terrain, so be prepared for climbing and descending hills.
Saltpans Walk – This trail leads from Victoria through the Sara valley to Wied il-Ghasri. From there you’ll reach the salt pans of Xwejni. Beyond the Qbajjar bay, the trail continues through meadows and hills back inland. Flora, fauna, and birdsong are rich in this area. Ramla Walk – This route begins in the Marsalforn valley and ends in Xagħra. This village is well worth exploring. The Ramla Walk includes a descent down the hill that takes you to Ramla Bay. Xlendi Walk – The walk starts at the Mgarr harbor. The tourist route winds past the Chambrai fortress and then along the coast to Mġarr ix-Xini. From there, it follows the edge of the deep valley and later the Ta’ Ċenċ cliffs. It ends in the bay of Xlendi. Dwejra Walk – Head to Dwejra for a less-known route that passes through the village of Santa Luċija. The Dwejra coastal walk winds through open countryside past limestone quarries. Then you return through the village of San Lawrenz. Ta’ Ġurdan Walk – This peaceful trail from Għarb includes a route that leads to the chapel of San Dimitri. The route includes a coastal path along Wied il-Mielaħ and then continues to the Ta’ Ġurdan lighthouse, before heading back.

Cycling on the island of Gozo offers a wide range of different routes. From easy trails through picturesque villages, sleepy country roads, to steep rocky paths for mountain bikes along the coast with stops for a swim in the sea. On Gozo or Malta, you can find bike rentals, so you can borrow one if you’re interested.
